Textile waste REcovery of Fiber
PROJECT LEAD

Edoardo Vitto

CONCEPT

In this context, A2A aims to test new technologies for recovering cotton/polyester fibers.
The project will explore a highly innovative technology designed to recover high-value-added products, along with PET.
Thanks to the electrification of the process, renewable energy sources can be used, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The expected outputs will be marketable raw materials, and the process will be developed to adapt to different input matrices, in line with the principles of circular economy and reuse.

CONTEXT

Fast fashion products have a short lifespan, and—combined with high production volumes—this results in an increasing amount of textile waste.
The European Commission has mandated the separate collection of textile waste.
While existing technologies can already handle single-fiber textiles, most of the increasing waste consists of blended fibers, for which there are no consolidated recycling solutions.
Following the experimentation phase of this project, A2A aims to position itself as a key player in the recovery of blended fiber textiles.
