The SARDINNIAENBROS project aims to develop an innovative textile recycling hub in Sardinia, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision technologies.
AI will analyze the physical and chemical properties of fabrics, detecting defects, compositions, and hidden pollutants—thus optimizing the sorting process for recycling.
This hub will transform textile waste into reusable resources, reducing waste and supporting high-quality, sustainable textile production.
The project contributes to the transition toward a circular economy, enhancing local fabrics like Sardinian brocade and promoting sustainability in the sector.
SARDINNIAENBROS stems from the need to innovate the Sardinian textile industry, which has a rich heritage in producing high-quality fabrics like brocade but faces challenges related to sustainability.
Each year, the sector generates 4,000 tons of textile waste, of which only 1% is recycled, creating a significant environmental impact.
In this context, the project aims to turn these challenges into opportunities, using advanced technologies to improve product quality, recover resources, promote circular practices, and revitalize the Sardinian textile supply chain sustainably.
The core goal is to promote a sustainable transformation of the Sardinian textile sector by introducing an AI-based platform for automated material quality control.
This platform will automate fabric analysis and classification, reducing reliance on manual inspection, while also promoting ecological and circular practices throughout the supply chain.
Key technological innovations include automated defect detection and identification of hidden pollutants, improving textile quality, limiting waste, and reducing the use of natural resources.
In a circular economy perspective, the project also includes the creation of a textile recycling hub in Sardinia, which will reduce environmental impact, create new job opportunities, and support the development of local technical skills.
Digitizing Sardinia’s textile tradition—especially brocade—will help preserve its quality and cultural value.
