CONCEPT

The AgroDesign AI Platform will serve as a digital hub connecting the agri-food sector, waste managers, and designers to promote a collaborative ecosystem for sustainable innovation.
The platform will employ artificial intelligence algorithms to map agri-food waste, enhancing traceability and facilitating local sourcing of materials.
It will provide detailed information on available by-products, integrate climate data, and suggest potential applications based on the chemical and physical properties of materials.
Additional features will include tools for environmental impact assessment and a database of exemplary projects.
The initiative supports the sustainability goals of the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and promotes circular economy practices and competitiveness in the furniture, textile, and fashion sectors.

CONTEXT

The AgroDesign AI Platform aims to create a digital, AI-powered platform that links agri-food industries and waste management operators with design laboratories and circular economy experts, with the goal of valorizing pre-consumer waste.
By enhancing traceability and fostering collaboration, the project will enable the transformation of biomass waste into materials for furniture, textiles, and Made in Italy fashion.
Through the creation of a "waste marketplace", the platform seeks to drive circularity, engage producers and research centers, and develop eco-friendly, innovative products, while also raising environmental awareness through social media and the promotion of best practices.

OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULTS

The AgroDesign AI Platform acts as a dynamic hub connecting agri-food businesses, waste managers, and designers within a sustainable innovation ecosystem.

Main objectives:

  • Promote knowledge exchange among stakeholders to stimulate innovation and sustainable design practices
  • Valorize agri-food by-products as economic resources by identifying new material flows and collaborative opportunities
  • Use AI to map and categorize agri-food waste, improving waste management and aiding designers in material selection
  • Visualize the geographical availability of by-products to promote local sourcing and reduce transport-related emissions
  • Predict seasonal availability of resources by integrating meteorological and production cycle data
  • Recommend material applications based on their properties, including sustainability certifications
  • Evaluate environmental impact through integrated Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tools to support conscious design decisions
  • Provide inspiration via a database of exemplary projects demonstrating creative reuse of agri-food residues

Aligned with PNRR and the MICS Program, the platform promotes sustainable innovation and advanced business models to enhance the circular economy and Made in Italy competitiveness in the furniture and textile industries.
