CONTEXTThe project addresses the recovery and reuse of cigarette filters, turning one of the most difficult waste materials to manage globally into a valuable Secondary Raw Material (SRM): Recovered Cellulose Acetate.
The relevance, utility, and originality of the project lie both in its innovative waste treatment method—with over 71 billion used cigarette filters discarded annually in Italy—and in the potential to introduce a new material (SRM) to the market. This material can be used in additive manufacturing across multiple applications, particularly in furniture, home décor, and fashion accessories.
