The project aims to create an “ecosystem of woodworkers” able to optimize their production from both a performance and environmental point of view.
Production optimization will be based on 6 elements:
Regarding the 1° thread (energy saving strategies), the expected results are: – critical review of the monitoring system currently integrated in some SCM machines and assessment of the “AS IS” situation about productive resources; – machine energy status recognition; – definition and implementation of a methodology for a smart monitoring of the energy consumption of machines (identification/mapping of consumption modes); – definition of a set of guidelines for a sustainable design and “design to performance” of the machines; – definition of a more general and less expensive energy monitoring system (compared to the current solution); – identification of strategies for a better energy management of the resources; – presentation of the above data to the operator via a user friendly GUI (shake on the needs of the final data consumer). Regarding the 2° thread (woodworking optimization), the expected results are: – integration of environmental sustainability criteria into production management; – theoretical problem framing; – implementation of a model for the simulation of the woodworking processes; – definition of the necessary algorithms in order to realize the best compromise between: a) energy savings b) minimization of defective pieces c) maximization of production rate d) extension of tool life; – definition of the necessary algorithms in order to maximize of one of the above parameters (from a) to d)).
